

Mike Bishop, 70, of Homewood, Alabama, passed away on April 23, 2014. He was the son of the late Thomas H. Bishop, Jr. and Wilma Earle Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a graduate of Fairfield High School and Howard College, later Samford University, where he was an outstanding varsity football player at both schools. After college he was on the coaching staff at Berry High School and the head football coach at Tarrant High School. After years of coaching he began a successful career in sales, first with Southeastern Bolt and Screw and then Birmingham Fasteners. He valued his co-workers and customers greatly.
Mike loved being with his family, hunting, fishing, and enjoying friends and family at the Bishop High Point Farm. Mike loved his dogs and every child he ever met. He was a longtime member of Fairfield First Baptist Church and later a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Debbie, and daughters Jennifer (Paul) Lavelle, Sarah Bishop, and Natalie Morrow. Connor and Ellie Lavelle are his much loved grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Brad (Anne) Bishop and Johnny (Linda) Bishop who will miss him greatly, as will his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons Jacob Lee and Jason Lane Bishop. Mike will continue to live in the hearts and mind of all his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on April 28, 2014 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood. Donations may be made to the Dawson Memorial Baptist Children’s Ministry or to The Jake Bishop Memorial, Inc. at 1001 Keith Cove, Birmingham, AL 35242.
