Mimi was a schoolteacher and worked for many years teaching elementary school in Jefferson County and Hoover City school systems. Her excellence in teaching earned her an award from the National Freedom Foundation. A native of Decatur, Alabama, she was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham. She received both a bachelors and masters degree in education from Montevallo University, graduating summa cum laude, while at the same time raising her three children. She was known for her bright smile, love of animals, fun-seeking personality, and charming presence, though perhaps her greatest qualities were her love for family and friends and her faith in God’s goodness and love.
Mimi was a member and served on the boards of several organizations and charities, including the Salvation Army, Veterans Hospital, and the Greater Birmingham Humane Society Auxiliary. She was a member of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church where she served on the chancel guild and as president of the adult Sunday school class for many years.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, 3405 Brookwood Road, Mountain Brook, Alabama on May 28, 2015. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service.
Private burial will be held after the service at the convenience of the family.
Ridout’s Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church or to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
