

Nancy K. Lawrence, aged 96, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 26, 1928, in Samantha, Alabama, Nancy was the youngest of ten children. Growing up in Samantha, she was cherished and lovingly protected by her older siblings, a bond that nurtured her compassionate and gracious nature. She attended Montevallo College and went on to lead a life characterized by devoted family ties, lasting friendships, and tireless service to her community.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan Lawrence Sr., and her son, Donald, who passed away at the age of 8. She is survived by her sons Dan Jr. (Sally), Randall (Nancy) and Andrew (Karen)Lawrence; her seven adored grandchildren: Andrew, Daniel, Kristen, Hallie, Caroline, Dan III and
Sarah; and eight cherished great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren lovingly called her "Fancy Nancy," a reflection of her grace, style, and vibrant personality.
Known for her warmth and elegance, Nancy had many close friends and was admired for her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She actively participated in various organizations and several social clubs, such as the Silhouettes Dance Club, Coronets Dance Club, and The Comida Encores Dinner Dance Club.
Among her many contributions, Nancy was especially proud of her participation in the Spain Rehabilitation Center as past president of Spain Rehabilitation Women's Committee. Additionally, she served as president of the Cherokee Bend Rose Garden Club and as a Board member of the Arlington Historical Association. Nancy also enjoyed teaching etiquette classes to young residents at Big Oak Ranch and served as a Cub Scout leader, leaving a lasting impression on the children she mentored.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church and actively attended the Torchbearers Sunday School Class. Nancy was also a dedicated supporter of the arts, contributing her time to the Birmingham Music Club Guild, the Birmingham Opera Guild, and the Symphony Women's Committee. She cherished the friendships she formed as a member of The Club and the Vestavia Country Club.
Nancy's life was a testament to love, resilience, and generosity. Her family and many friends will remember her for her grace, kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held in Decatur, AL where Nancy will be laid to rest beside her husband, Dan. Ridout's Valley Chapel is providing funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers,the family asks memorials be sent to Mountain Brook Baptist Church, UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center or any Charity/Organization of their Choice.
