Patricia Bowles Braswell, known as Patti, passed away on September 9, 2023 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. She was born on November 15, 1932 to Grace and Lee Bowles in Sylaucaga, Alabama. Patti won a look-alike Shirley Temple contest at 5 years old. She bossed her little brother, Buddy and little sister, Sue, their entire lives. She graduated from Stevenson High School and went on to graduate with an interior design degree from Auburn University.
Patti was a fabulous mom and Mimi. She was loving always with a great sense of humor and keen sarcastic wit. Patti was tough when necessary (ask her carpool about the wooden spoon) but loved her family and friends passionately and with loyalty. She was the Sunshine Lady for her Covenant Sunday School class for years, owned a gift shop in Homewood, and worked at Steinmart as the “boutique lady”. Patti was a member and officer of many clubs throughout her life; she enjoyed the many friends that she met in Camelot, Crescent, garden club and her church book club. She enjoyed The Knitter’s Group; she might not have knitted many items, but she loved those women. Patti was creative in her garden and an avid reader. In Patti’s last months, Kesha Smith became a much-loved friend and caregiver to Patti.
Patti’s survivors include her daughter, Tracey Marks (Dave); grandson, Ben Marks, her sister, Sue Perry (Bob) with many nieces and nephews and greats. She was preceded in death by her son, Rob Braswell and granddaughter, Mica Marks, her brother, Buddy Bowles and sister-in-law, DeDe.
The Celebration of Life will be held at Vestavia Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35216 on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, with the service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
