Bob is predeceased by his daughter Terri Lynn Gilbert, parents Luther Raymond Gilbert and Lucille McKoy Gilbert and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Austin.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his daughter Katie Gilbert of Chamblee, GA, sister Mary Ellen Austin of Cullman, niece Cynthia Austin Wingo, nephew Sidney Austin, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and best friend Diane Wilhelm.
Bob graduated from North Fulton County High School in Atlanta, served time in the military and then, because of his love of cars, devoted his entire career to car sales and management in Atlanta.
He moved to Cullman in 2005 and never wanted to leave. He was so happy to have been a part of the Men’s Breakfast group of St. John’s Church. His friendships gave him many opportunities to play golf and watch lots of football being the avid golfer and lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan that he was. His last night was spent seeing the beautiful sunset from his hospital room in Birmingham and watching Atlanta Braves baseball with his daughter Katie beside him.
The celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday, April 29 at Moss Service Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. and service at 3 p.m. conducted by Pastor Bob Kurtz. Interment alongside his parents at Cullman City Cemetery will take place at a later time.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit of CRMS for their loving care.
