

After celebrating his 98th birthday on May 1, 2017 Robert Lee Pickett passed away on June 5, 2017 at his residence in Homewood. He was born in Carrolton, Kentucky on May 1, 1919 , the son of James H. Pickett and Susie Hayes Pickett. After marrying Ruth Jordan in May 1940, the couple established residency in Birmingham, where he and Ruth raised their family.
Bob was associated with McWane Cast Iron Pipe Co. from 1940 until his retirement in 1982, by which time he had become General Sales manager. He also proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the Signal Corp during the Pacific Campaign and later served with the Army's Occupations Forces in Korea after the war.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Jordan Pickett and a son Mark Pickett. He is survived by his children: Harriette Fennell (John), Ellene Gladden (Bill), Robin Short (Randy) and Holly Chandler (Gary); his sister Helen Fay Ray of Springfield, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Bob was a devout Christian who faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Birmingham. He made enduring friendships, served as an example to his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at Ridout's Valley Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Bob Pickett may be made to First Baptist Church of Birmingham.
