

SADIE LOU GIBSON JACKSON, of Birmingham, Alabama, died on Saturday, January 28, 2017. She was 86 years old. She was a native of Ashland, Alabama and a graduate of Anniston High School. She was also a graduate of Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in 1953. She married Richard (Dick) Jackson on December 26, 1953 at Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama. Sadie was a longtime member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, a deacon and member of the sanctuary choir. She was a gifted vocalist, pianist and organist. She was very active in the Huntingdon College National Alumni Association as well as the Samford Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Princess Sehoy chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Hartwell Gibson and Mary Josephine Smith Gibson both of Ashland, Alabama and her husband of 57 years, Lt. Colonel Richard L. (Dick) Jackson. She is survived by her son Paul Jackson (Dottie) of Granville, Ohio, her daughters Janet Jackson Bishop (Ron), and Martha Jackson Mims (Michael) of Birmingham, her five grandchildren, Eddie Jackson (Lisa), Katie Beth Jackson, Christina Bishop, Kip Bishop (Katelyn), and Christopher Mims and her three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Stanley Jackson, Gwyneth Jewel Jackson, and John Jones Bishop. A private graveside service will be held for the family in Ashland, Alabama, with the memorial service to be held in the sanctuary of Mountain Brook Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 with visitation following. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church (3631 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213) or to a favorite charity.
