Sara Lynn deFuniak

Sara Lynn deFuniak, age 82, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on January 6, 2026. Friends are cordially invited to a reception celebrating her life at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood on Saturday, January 10th from 12-1:30 p.m.

Born on April 13, 1943, to Bernard and Martha Vaughan in Opelika, Alabama, Sara Lynn was the fourth of six children. She met her husband, Fox, while working at First National Bank in Birmingham, where she was known for her good looks, fun personality, and excellent secretarial skills. He had been named the “Most Eligible Bachelor in Birmingham”. Together, they were a match made in heaven. The two married and lived a life devoted to their family and filled with warmth and love with their four daughters, and later nine grandchildren. Sara Lynn was a loving mother and an adoring grandmother who loved nothing more than to laugh; she did so easily and often. She was known for her quick wit and sharp sense of humor, as well as her enduring inner and outer beauty. She adored her doting husband of 49 years, Fox, and their love was evident to all who knew them. Their four daughters were her pride, and her grandchildren were her treasure. Nothing filled her cup like time spent surrounded by her family, always full of laughter.

Sara Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Albert Fox deFuniak III in 2022; and by her siblings Ginger Vaughan, Mike Vaughan, and Bernie Vaughan.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Liz Landgren (Brett), Emily Gregory (Paul), Kate Robinson (Brad), and Sara Walker (Chris). She will be missed by her nine wonderful grandchildren: Bess, Fox, and Banks Landgren; Mary Addison, Amelia, and Beau Gregory; and Christopher, Charlie, and Fox Walker. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Bill Vaughan and Beppy Vaughan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the The Foundation to Eradicate Duchenne, in honor of Beau Gregory.
