Sara Anna Shepherd

Sara was born on May 23, 1934, in rural Clay County near the town of Lineville, Alabama. Upon her graduation from Lineville High School, she moved to Birmingham where she began her career as an insurance claims adjuster, working in insurance until her retirement.

Sara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Shepherd; her parents, Olen and Florida Harris; two brothers, Leland Harris and Chester Harris; and three sisters, Clealis Prestridge, Christine Glenn, and Louise Brooks. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Gayton and Jean Cox of Birmingham and one brother, Ray Harris of Waxahachie, TX.

A visitation for Sara will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Sara was buried with her husband, an Air Force veteran, at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
