Sergie Kampakis, born on March 16, 1949, passed onto eternal life on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Sergie is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Swan Kampakis; his children, Demetra Annette Kampakis and John Arris Kampakis; his mother-in-law, Annette Burrow Swan; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Archie and Toula Kampakis.
Sergie attended Ramsey High School before studying at the University of Montevallo, where he received his undergraduate degree, and the University of Alabama, where he received his master’s degree.
Sergie worked in insurance for over 40 years and founded his own company, Kampakis Insurance Services. Sergie found great joy in providing insurance solutions and support for his clients’ needs. That said, the greatest joy of his career was when his son, John, decided to follow in his footsteps and join Kampakis Insurance Services in 2023.
Sergie was not just motivated to serve in a professional capacity; perhaps his greatest calling was to serve and love God with his whole heart. Sergie was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Sergie was a fixture of the church and served others through fellowship – whether volunteering at the Greek Food Festival, sharing coffee with fellow churchgoers after Sunday service, or bringing others along to the church to experience his faith – he wanted to share his God with everyone.
Of course, one cannot mention his devotion to his church without pointing out the Greekness of it all – and how happy it made Sergie. He absolutely adored his extended family and community, and he was very proud of his Greek heritage.
Sergie was also one for routine, and he found a great one in the “Morning Coffee Club.” Every morning, Sergie woke bright and early to meet friends at “the bakery” (aka Continental Bakery or Ladybird Taco, depending on the day) for coffee and fellowship.
Finally, Sergie was still a boy at heart. He loved planes, trains, and automobiles. Whether it was collecting, fixing, or building (he roped his kids into a few model plane and car projects), Sergie was always up for fun. He truly loved life and the people living life with him.
On Thursday, February 19, 2026, we invite all to celebrate the life of Sergie Kampakis. Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral will host a visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM with the service thereafter. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A Makaria (reception) will be held afterward in the cathedral banquet hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
