

Susan Trimble Measel of Hoover went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Susan was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, September 4, 1928 to Judge Thomas Clark and Elsie Walls Trimble. She is survived by her sons John Measel (Kay) of Fayette, Chuck Measel (Pam) of Hoover, Andy Measel (Mary) of Vestavia; four grandsons and one granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Marshall Measel; parents; sisters Judge Elsijane Roy and Molly Verser; brothers Thomas Trimble and Walls Trimble.
Susan grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas the youngest of 5 children surrounded by Aunts, Uncles and cousins. To hear her describe Lonoke, it was an idyllic small American town from a bygone era. She attended the Lonoke First Baptist Church and gave her life to Jesus at a young age. After high school she attended the University of Arkansas and University of Oklahoma majoring in architecture. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Susan married Marshall Crenshaw Measel March 3rd
1951 beginning 49 sweet years of love and affection. Sue and Marty lived in Louisiana for a time where Son John was born. Marty’s job next took them to Birmingham Al, where they put down roots. Son Charles came next followed by Albert.
Sue worked as a draftsman in local architecture firms in both Alexandria and Birmingham. She did bookkeeping for the family farm in Arkansas. Most importantly, Sue was a loving, caring, devoted wife, mother, mother in law and grandmother.
Sue and Marty’s first residence in Birmingham was on Chapel Road in Bluff Park right down from a new little church, Shades Crest Baptist.
Over the years they would be very active in Shades Crest and Green Valley Baptist churches. Sue and Marty taught Training Union and Sunday School for many years and were blessed with so many wonderful Christian friendships.
Sue was very artistic and loved God’s nature. She loved to create, paint and draw. She did the plans for her house on South Burbank. She painted murals and portraits of historical figures on her children’s walls and doors. She made Holiday decorations. She loved to oil paint.
She loved to entertain. She enjoyed playing bridge for many years. She loved the Lord and his church family. She loved her grandchildren dearly. She loved her neighbors and enjoyed sitting outside in her front yard where she could visit with them.
There will be a visitation at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood on Monday Oct 11th at 9:30 a.m. followed by the graveside service in Elmwood cemetery at 11am.
In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Shades Crest Baptist Church in Hoover.
