
Vera Clarice Franklin Hitchcock died at the age of 88 on January 23, 2017 after a long illness. Born in Atlanta, Georgia July 8, 1928, she was the daughter of Clyde and Harriet Franklin. She married Channing Hitchcock January 21, 1951. Mrs. Hitchcock graduated from Hollins College with a degree in Psychology and pursued a career in education. She raised her family in Lakeland, Florida. Retirement took her back to her roots, a farm in Portal, Georgia where she was active in her church, garden club and bridge club. Mrs. Hitchcock’s green thumb provided many meals and excellent pecans. She is survived by her husband Chan, daughters Gail Magnus (Milton) and Wendy Morrow, twin sister, Vivian Wall, four grandchildren Claire Magnus Thomas (John), Ellen Magnus Hawley (Brad), Milton Malcolm Magnus IV (Stephanie), Kelsey Veronica Morrow and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held January 26, 2017 at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Statesboro (Georgia) or Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church.
