

Virginia Mae Schmitt, age 97, passed away on September 24, 2014. She was known by many as th First Lady of Theatre in Birmingham, starting with the original Little Thaetre in 1947, Then Town and Gown and Seasoned Performers. She worked for many years at Goslin, Birmingham Manufacturing, with her Father and after retiring, worked at UAB. She was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member and choir member for many years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority since 1941 and held the distinction of being the longest standing member in the state of Alabama. She was awarded the Beta Sigma Phi International Award of Distinction in 2001 after 60 years of dedicated fellowship. She is survived by her sister, Magaret (Bob) Dawson of Homewood; nephew, Rob (Lynda) Dawson of Homewood; neices, Anne Dawson of Catersville, GA, Barbara Dawson of Birmingham and Lea (Michael) Lorino of Riverchase; great-nephews, Graham Dawson, Sam Lorino; great-neices, Sara and Laura Beth Garrett of Catersville, GA and Elena Lorino of Riverchase. There will be a memorial service at Woodlawn UMC at 2:00 pm, Saturday 27, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family request donation to Woodlawn UMC in her memory.
