

Walter S. Hunter, Jr., age 93, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. He was born on January 18, 1922 to the late Walter S. Hunters, Sr. and Catherine L. Hunter. Walter was a graduate of Ramsey High School and Auburn University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a parachute Rigger Second Class. Walter and his brother Robert owned and operated Hunter Furniture for over 60 years. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church for 67 years, where he served in several leadership positions, including Board of Stewards and Superintendent of Sunday School. Walter was a member of the Woodlawn Lions Club, Sertoma Club, a founding member of Downtown Action Committee and a volunteer at Woodlawn Food Bank. He was preceded in death by his grandson Austin Hunter.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 67 years (October 25, 1948) Ann Butterworth Hunter; sons: Walter S. Hunter III (Terry), Richard A. Hunter (Meri) and Larry C. Hunter (Anita); grandchildren: Kayla Hunter, Taylor Hunter, Anna Vinson (J. Raymond) and Austin Hunter; great granddaughter Abigail June Vinson; sisters: Frances Bush, JoAnn Curtis; brother: Robert L. Hunter and by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood on Friday, October 23rd at 1:00p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Emily Penfield and Rev. Jim Etheridge officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Walter Hunter, Jr. may be made to Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
