William Lowell Gunn, Jr. was born April 1, 1965 in Gadsden, Alabama to William Lowell Gunn and Betty Scruggs Gunn. He left this earthly life on March 20, 2024. William graduated from Walker High School in 1983 and then from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1989, where he received his degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in computers. He was a faithful employee of Regions Bank as a Network Engineer for more than 20 years.
William was an active member of Trinity United Methodist in Homewood and enjoyed singing in the traditional choir. In his spare time, William loved going to the movie theater to watch movies, which was difficult during Covid shutdown. He watched M*A*S*H reruns as often as he could, an interest he shared with his dad and he loved to read crime and legal fiction novels written by authors like John Grisham, Scott Turow, and Tom Clancy.
He was an avid Georgia Tech Yellowjacket fan. He traveled to see many basketball and football games over the years. He loved the NCAA Basketball March Madness and took off work each year for this event!
He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Gunn. He leaves behind a loving family: mother, Betty Scruggs Gunn, and sisters, Amelia Spencer (Brad) and Catherine Walker(Clete); nieces and nephews: Graham Spencer ( Ashley), Liza Spencer Mezzy (Sarah), Wesley Walker (Abby), Griffin Walker (Julianne), Mary Virginia Spencer, Isaias Spencer, Caleb Walker, and James Spencer; great nieces: Lottie Walker and Evelyn Walker.
Visitation was held at 10:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 March 22, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Trinity United Methodist Church Choir.
The family wishes to thank the UAB Heart and Lung Intensive Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care given to William during his illness.
