

William “Bob” Robert Mason of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on February 5th, 2015 at 62 years old. Bob was born in Birmingham on September 4, 1952 to William Mason and Vivian Anne Willoughby. He graduated from The University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1978 from the School of Natural Science and Mathematics. Bob met the love of his life, Gayle Oliver in High School and they were happily married on May 4th, 1973. He served in the military and was a Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard. He was the Senior Vice President of ABC Coke and has been a dedicated employee for 44 years. He is a past chairman of the National American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI). He was active in a leadership role with the institute for over 20 years. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and would often squabble with his son-in-laws, whom were both avid Auburn fans, about where his grandchildren would attend college. If not spending time with his family or working, he would be found making his weekly trip to purchase bulk goods at Costco, getting his car washed, and playing with his grandchildren who adored him. He was loved by all and will be missed by many. Bob’s life was full of everything a man could ask for and he was surrounded by his family during his last days. Survivors include wife Gayle; mother Vivian Ann; daughter Stefanie Mason Davis (Tate Davis) of Birmingham, AL; daughter Ashley Mason Greer (Matthew Greer) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Tate (7), Olivia (6), Mason (5), Palmer (3), and Liam (2); sister Dot Mason of Birmingham, AL. Bob was preceded in death by his father William Mason. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook, AL on Monday, February 9th, 2015 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
