Wilma Imogene "Jeanie" Kirkland

Wilma Imogene “Jeanie” Kirkland, age 85, of Mountain Brook, died peacefully in her home on November 26, 2013. She was born in Oneida, TN and lived in Jefferson County, Alabama for many years and was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Mrs. Kirkland was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known for her love of painting and a love for all animals. Gracious and kind, she helped anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Amos Lee Thomas; sons, Robert Lee Thomas and Lt. Col. David Allen Thomas and brother, John Quincy Smith. Survivors include husband, Dr. Theo N. Kirkland; daughter, Belinda Thomas; son, William Thomas; grandchildren, Megan Champion, Amy Rimer Martin, Justin Rimer, Brian Thomas, Michael Thomas, Joshua Thomas and Amanda Thomas Lucherini along with numerous great grandchildren. Mrs. Kirkland will be buried in the Smith Family Cemetery in Oneida, TN on December 2, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Mountain Brook Baptist Church at 2:00. A visitation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mountain Brook Baptist Church 3631 Montevallo Rd, Mountain Brook, Al 35213.
