

Alan Lynn “Al” Durden, 80, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Tues., July 18, 2017 at home. A native of Franklin, NC, he was born Sept. 24, 1936, the only child to Abraham Lincoln, Sr. and Olga (Shulemeyer) Durden. Alan served his country proudly and honorable in the United States Marine Corps for six years during the Korean War Era and attained the rank of sergeant. Al, as he was known to many, was a retired sales engineer with Genca Corp., a tool and die manufacturer, a career that spanned more than 30 years. He moved to Homosassa in 1995 from Port Richey, FL and was a longtime active member of Grace Bible Church in Homosassa. Al loved hunting, fishing and acquiring antiques, as well as restoring them. As a rockhound, he also enjoyed polishing rocks and gemstones. Mr. Durden is survived by his three children: Charles Durden (wife Telana); Debbie Mitchell (husband Richard Lawhorn) and Sherry Walker, all of Homosassa; eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Mary Frances Durden, on March 1, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Sat., July 22, 2017 at Grace Bible Church, 6382 W. Green Acres St., Homosassa, with Rev. Ray Herriman officiating. Interment with military honors rendered by the Unites States Marine Corps will follow at 2:30 P.M. from Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa.
