

MMC David Glenn Hammock, USN (RET), 86, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away on Sat., March 21, 2026 at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida. Born in Humble, Texas on March 29, 1939, the only child to Dow and Ruby (Williams) Hammock, Dave was raised in Woodville, Texas, where he graduated from Kirby High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably and proudly for 24 years, attaining the rank of Machinist Mate Chief Petty Officer, serving on United States Navy ships the majority of his enlistment. Late into his U.S. Navy career, he relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa with his beloved wife of 61 years, Linda Lou (Valandingham) Hammock, whom he married on March 6, 1965. Chief Petty Officer Hammock served his country in Cedar Rapids as a U.S. Navy Recruiter, retiring in 1981. An active member of the Cedar Rapids community, Dave and Linda owned and operated The Stadium Lounge Sports Bar for 20 years. David was a Life Member of the VFW and the Cooties, an auxiliary order of the VFW; a 50 year member of The American Legion; member of the Forty and Eight; the Fleet Reserve Association; Loyal Order of Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Hammock was also a 50 year member of Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elks. David moved to Homosassa in 2009 from Cedar Rapids and is survived by his loving wife and sole caregiver for the past eighteen months, Linda Lou Hammock of Homosassa; son Steve Hammock (wife Anna) of Winfield, Iowa and granddaughter Molly Messer (husband Charles), also of Winfield, Iowa. Interment with Military Honors will be rendered on Tues., April 7, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida, with honors rendered by the United States Navy and American Legion Post #155 of Crystal River, Florida. Services entrusted to Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida.
