

Dr. Fred J. “Ted” Brockett, Jr., 85, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Tues., May 3, 2016 at the Sturgill HPH Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, FL. A native of Springfield, MA, he was born March 27, 1931 to Fred J., Sr. and Marcia (Dibble) Brockett, one of three children. Ted, as he was known to everyone, was a graduate of both the University of Connecticut and Michigan State University Veterinary College, from where he earned his doctorate degree. Dr. Brockett joined his father’s veterinary practice, Suffield Veterinarian Hospital in Suffield, CT upon receiving his doctorate and continued the practice after his father’s passing. Ted’s career spanned nearly 40 years and he also served his community as 1st Selectman. He was also President of the Emergency Aid Association in Suffield and their Fire Commissioner, as well as member of the Bradley Airport Board, Windsor Locks, CT. Dr. Brockett moved to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa in 1993 from Suffield and was a member of both Sugarmill Woods and Southern Woods Country Clubs of Homosassa. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rosemary B. “Mim” Brockett, Homosassa; daughter Jann Williams, San Diego, CA; son Frank Firor (wife Cecelia), Dobbs Ferry, NY; daughter Ginny Keilty (husband Rick), Boxford, MA; grandchildren Nathan (wife Melissa), Luke, Tyler, Amy (husband Alex), Stephanie, Rick III (wife Stephanie), Colleen and Curtis and great grandchildren Owen and Liam, as well as nephew Steve Brockett (wife Paulette), Ormond Beach, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Malcolm “Bud” Brockett and a sister, Jane Hibbard. . A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Homosassa, on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Kip Younger officiating.
