

Janet Louise (James) Pierson, 80, of Homosassa, FL and Crescent Beach, Niantic, CT, passed away on Tues., Feb. 13, 2024 at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital in Inverness, FL. A native of Springfield, MA, she was born Oct. 29, 1943 to Leonard and Gladys (Peterson) James, one of four children. Jan, as she was known to many, married Wilbur B. “Bill” Pierson III on May 4, 1963, and moved to Rocky Hill, CT, where they raised their two sons. Jan enjoyed gardening, reading, and was a talented and gifted crafting instructor for over 25 years. Mrs. Pierson was a Charter Member of the Crescent Beach Historical Society since it’s inception in 2007 and served as their Beach Historian. Jan moved to Homosassa in 2000, and enjoyed her volunteer work with Citrus County Blessings, a weekend food program for school children, and was a member of Sugarmill Woods Country Club in Homosassa since 1987. In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence James, on July 31, 2009. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Wilbur B. “Bill” Pierson III of Homosassa; son Christian Pierson and his wife Debra-Lynn (Gilman) Pierson and their children Hannah and Julia of Bowie, MD; son Wayne Pierson and his children Gabrielle and Matthew of Newington CT; brothers Edward James and his wife Alice (Stein) James of Niantic, CT and Donald James of Glastonbury, CT; sister-in-law Katherine (Littlefield) James of New London, NH and several nieces and nephews.
