Jean J. Alexander, 96, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Mon., Jan. 29, 2024 at Vitas Healthcare in Lecanto, FL. A native of Copper City, Michigan, she was born Aug. 21, 1927 to Oscar and Emma (Voelker) Rundquist, one of 12 children. Jean moved to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa from San Antonio, Texas, about 30 years ago. She moved here to spend her retirement years close to her youngest sister, Betty Laine (and her husband, Arvo Laine). Jean enjoyed a long career with the Defense Mapping Agency in Army Intelligence in various locations, including at the Pentagon and San Antonio, for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Jean was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa. Jean was an avid reader, especially interested in history and political science. Jean loved listening to music and dancing. Her favorite country artist was George Strait. Jean enjoyed supporting her favorite sports teams, including the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Antonio Spurs. Jean enjoyed gardening and watching her flowers grow and especially enjoyed her role as the neighborhood pet sitter. She loved animals and was always available to help out her neighbors who had pets and needed to be away. Her perfect day would begin with her waking up in Rockland, Michigan, where she was born and raised. She would start her day with coffee and a crossword puzzle, then heading out for her morning walk of 3-5 miles. Jean was the last surviving sibling of twelve, so in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eight sisters and three brothers. Jean is survived by 2 nieces; Nancy Weza (Ontonagon, Michigan) and Linda Harris (Garden City, Michigan) and numerous great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Jean and her great love of animals may make donations to Citrus County Animal Services, 4030 South Airport Road, Inverness, FL 34450.
