Marlene Frances Dawson

Marlene F. Dawson, born on November 30, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 78. Businesswoman, philanthropist, co-owner of Jewels & Diamonds- Exquisite Fine Jewelry Store, co-founder & co-author Child Protection Coalition®, Jessica's Law ® and Chief Editor and Advisor of Dr. Gem’s Prescriptions®. During her younger years Marlene was the former vice president of the Lockport Bank in Chicago and was a published bridal model.

Marlene bravely battled four types of cancer during the past decade. Prior to her illness Marlene could be found traveling the world and raising money for charities with her husband.

Marlene had an infectious smile and was quite adventurous, tenacious, and had a loving spirit. Married to Joseph H. Dawson, AKA Dr. Gem® for nearly forty-three years and a longtime resident of Homosassa, Florida.

Marlene is survived by her loving husband, her sister Jean Berg, and her family in Lakeland, FL and her cousin John & Virgina Shields and their family in Chicago, IL.

Friends will be received at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, located at 4890 So. Suncoast Blvd. Homosassa, FL 34446 on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, where a Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Greg Richie officiating. Guests are invited to join us for light food and beverages after the service.

Marlene will be buried at Bushnell Military Cemetery on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 11:30 A.M. Anyone interested in attending the interment is requested to be at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home by 10:00AM.
