

Susan H. Grimes, 77, of Homosassa, passed away on April 13, 2013 at HPH Hospice in Brooksville. A native of Jacksonville, FL, she was born March 30, 1936 to J. Kilborne and Gladys (Padgett) Hyde, one of two children. Mrs. Grimes received her Bachelor’s degree in education from University of Vermont and earned her Master’s degree from University of Virginia. Susan taught in the military dependents education system for 25 years and three of her stations included Okinawa, Japan; Ft. Belvoir, Va. and Quantico, VA. Upon her retirement from teaching she was the coowner and operator, along with her husband George, of Chapel Green Antiques in Fredericksburg, VA. for 15 years. She moved to Homosassa in 2003 from Fredericksburg, but continued to summer at her family home in Sudbury, VT. In addition to her husband of nearly 42 years, George H. Grimes, Lt. Col., US Marine Corps (ret) of Homosassa, Mrs. Grimes is survived by her son Ray Grimes (wife Juliana), Seattle, WA; son Thomas Grimes, Kona, HI; sister Sally Arthur, Elk Park NC; granddaughter Christina Evangelisto (husband Joe) and great grandson Cameron, all of Apex, NC; nieces Patricia Owens and Ellen Squires of Jacksonville, FL and Sarah Arthur of North Carolina.
