Sept. 17, 1951 - Sept. 2, 2022
Debra "Debbie" Leilani Jardine, 70, of Kuliouou Valley passed away at her home in Hawaii Kai, Sept. 2, 2022. She was born Sept. 17, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Debbie is the Daughter of Raymond and Emmaline Jardine of Kuliouou Valley. She attended Holy Trinity School and Graduated from Kalani High School in 1969 where she was very active in sports such as Volleyball and Swimming. After High School Debbie joined the Honolulu Police Department's Recruit Program and was supposed to be the first Woman Police Officer in Hawaii. But she got pregnant by a fellow recruit who became her first husband which caused her to leave the Police Academy. Debbie later moved to Maui with her newborn son and Husband who was a Police Officer there. She soon divorced and returned to Oahu with her son.
Debbie was a very tough and strong minded person. She was also very selfless and caring of others. She began working at Honolulu Community Action Program (HCAP) Leahi District in Palolo Valley as a Secretary. There she distributed Surplus Food, Clothes Donation, Toys for Tot's, Utility Bill Subsidy Payments for Palolo Residents and other Community Programs.
Around this time Debbie had already had a second son. She also became more active in the community by becoming part of the Kaimuki Neighborhood Board. Eventually, Debbie became District Supervisor of Leahi HCAP and retired after 27yrs. of service. Debbie married for a second time and had a third son. She would later divorce again.
After retiring as Leahi District Supervisor Debbie was looking for a job with less responsibilities. She had great organizational and planning skills and decided to work at the Woman's Community Correctional Center (WCCC) as a secretary up until her retirement age. During the last 10yrs. of her life Debbie fell ill with many physical ailments. Because of her will power and strong mindedness she continued to work and support her family however she could. Debbie passed away at home how she wanted too.
She is survived by her Father Raymond Jardine, her Brother Raymond Jardine Jr., and 3 Sons, Vance Kamuela Viveiros, George Fernandez lll, and Joseph Fernandez. She also has many Grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
We will have a short celebration of life from 4:00 – 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Maunalua Bay, next to Hui Nalu Canoe club followed by taking her ashes out to the Moana.
