EDMUND “BUTTONS” GARCIA ALFONSO, JR., 64, of Waipahu, passed away on Monday, November 19 at Pali Momi Medical Center. He was born on January 13, 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ethel Ferreira and the late Edmund G. Alfonso.
Buttons is survived by the love of his life and wife of 30 years, Gwendolyn Yvonne Alfonso;
sons, Edmund “Eddie” G. Alfonso III and Randall Lum, Jr.; daughters, Christabel (Peter) Morris,
Gabriella (Matt) Bright, Deborah (Lee) Scruton, Lucy (John) Lai, Eleanor (David) Naone;
19 grandchildren, Imaikalani and Kepa Morris, Yvonne Sunia, Brittney White, Matthew “Makaio” Bright, Keoni (predeceased), Chanelle and Jake Esteban, Amber, Jennifer and Tyler Lum, Chasity (Joseph) Klein, Sean and Mana Lai, Nicholas, Seth, Ciara and Daniel Kokualani, Glory Naone;
7 great-grandchildren, Raiden and Jessica Morris, Tristan Klein, Luisa and Josaia Sunia, Silas Locquiao
and Skye Lum; mother Ethel Ferreira Keiek; brother John Stanley (Lorna) Pacheco.
Many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Aiea High School, Class of 1966. He worked as an Electronics Technician at NAVSEACENPAC FSO, Pearl Harbor until he retired in January 2003. Buttons was an avid bowler in the 80’s and 90’s, a long time member of the Elks Club and served as a representative on the Waipahu Neighborhood Board. He was a loving husband, dad and papa. He was also the “structure and foundation” of our family and ALWAYS a man of his word. You will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts. Until we meet again…
Funeral services will be held at Borthwick Mortuary (Mauka Chapel) at 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, on Saturday, December 8, 2012.
Visitation is at 10:00 a.m.
Services at 11:00 a.m.
Lunch to follow.
Burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744 on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
