Betty was born the middle daughter of Esther Hofgaard of Waimea, Kauai and Charles Campbell Crozier of Honolulu, July 25,1923. Betty spent most of her 91 years in Hawaii. Many of her early years were spent bare back riding through the fields of Mokuleia. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she attended Syracuse University in New York. University life was interrupted by WWII and midshipman Donald F. Nicholson. They were married September 27,1943 followed by months of separation during the war.
When Don returned, the couple tried post war life in California, where Don Jr. was born, however the call of Hawaii soon prompted their return to the islands. For several years they lived on the Oahu Sugar Plantation at Waipahu. Rick arrived and the family moved to Honolulu. Don went to work at Amfac downtown.
Two boys kept Betty occupied but she always made time to volunteer in her community. She was a little-league mom and volunteered at Queens Hospital. She was both a gracious hostess and a performer in the schools with the Junior League.
As the boys grew up and left the nest, Betty was able to indulge in one of her true passions, horticulture. Through her involvement in the Honolulu Garden Club she was able to interact with many talented professionals. She enjoyed golf and managed the Hawaiian Open Golfers Wives Tournament at Oahu Country Club for many years.
Later years included both travel and grandchildren. Betty and Don were able to enjoy granddaughters Heather and Hannah, as well as travel to China, Australia, Scotland, Germany, and the Mediterranean.
From traveling the world to raising two boys, Betty Nicholson lived a full life rich with adventure, dedication, kindness, and love. She will be laid to rest with her Ohana in Oahu Cemetery, Nuuanu, attended by a small family gathering.
