Fannie was born in Staten Island, New York in 1923 to Thomas and Irene Mirmigas who had immigrated to the United States from Greece to make a better life for their family. Fannie was the middle of 3 sisters who worked on their parents farm. She graduated from high school on Staten Island and met Peter through her sister Louise.
Peter and Fannie were married in the Greek Orthodox Church in 1945. Peter had been in Honolulu since 1942 to rebuild Pearl Harbor and he returned there after the wedding. Fannie made the cross country trip by train and ship separately. She worked at Pearl Harbor and the IRS before leaving to take care of her daughter full time.
Fannie and Peter made a wonderful life in Hawaii together. They loved Hawaii and all of the friends they made over the years. They were founding members of the Greek Orthodox Church in Honolulu and devoted their lives to building that Parish. Fannie was President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and was an integral part of the team that baked for the annual Greek Festival.
To know Fannie was to love her. She was full of love and compassion for everyone she knew. She was a tremendous wife, mother and grandmother (yiayia) and adored her son-in-law. We were all blessed to have her in our lives.
