John is survived by his wife of 48 years Yvonne K. Gates. He is also survived by son John T.S. Gates (Jill), daughters Melissa K. Fermin, and Melanie K. Simmons (Thomas), 13 grandchildren and brother Michael T. Gates.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Borthwick Mortuary Mauka Chapel from 10:30 a.m. with Services from 11:30 a.m. Refreshments to follow.
