June 26, 1942 - June 30, 2025
Lieu Moore, 83, of Keaau, Hawaii passed away peacefully at her son's home in Santa Clara, California surrounded by family on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Lieu was born on June 26, 1942 in Dong Hung, Thai Binh, Vietnam to Ruy Van Cao and Bai Thi Pham.
Lieu was raised in a family of humble beginnings as farmers in a poor rural community in Northern Vietnam during a time of war and upheaval. She learned to be a survivor at an early age, growing up quickly amid these desperate times, after being taken away from her family to be part of the massive wave of Northern Vietnamese refugees relocating to Southern Vietnam when the country was divided. During this historic mass migration, she began as a caregiver of another family's children. She moved away from this family as a teenager after failing to be compensated for her work. She later had a child of her own to care for before meeting her husband and having another child soon after. They left Vietnam after the Tet Offensive, as Saigon's future grew increasingly uncertain.
After leaving Vietnam, her life began anew as a devoted wife and homemaker, lovingly raising her own children. She followed her husband to live in Stratford, Connecticut; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; San Leandro, California; Okinawa, Japan; El Sobrante, California; and finally settling on the Big Island of Hawaii. She had a special way of connecting with people, often starting conversations with strangers and making friends wherever she was. She loved to cook and was known for her chicken pho and fried egg rolls. She never lost her love of being connected to the land through gardening and raising chickens. She cherished traveling to visit family on the mainland and in Vietnam.
Lieu is survived by her sister, Cam Thi Cao of Dong Hung, Thai Binh; her brothers, Hoan Cong Cao and his wife, Oanh Thi Tran of Vung Tau, and Bay Xuan Cao and his wife, Tuoi Thi Dang of Dong Hung, Thai Binh. She is also survived by her daughters, Murielle Lamy and her husband, Gabriel of Paris, France, and Marie Moore-Dailey and her husband, John of Okinawa, Japan; her sons, Charles Moore and his wife, Jarisse, and Scott Moore of San Jose, California; her step-daughters, Carol Greer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Deborah Baumbach of Charleston, Tennessee; special cousin Dean Wingrove and his wife Connie of Piedmont, Ohio; special niece Huyen Cao and her daughter Julianna of Alpine, California; twelve grandchildren, Daniel, Christina, Shawn, Pete, Steve, Joyce, Nicholas, Connor, Austin, Iris, James and Russell; and eight great-grandchildren, Shane, Sativa, Samson, Oceana, Mookie, Michaela, Jaylen, and Ava; and great-great-grandchildren.
