

Margaret (Aunty Margie) Freitas Isaacs, 91, was born on June 30, 1934 in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. She passed away on January 21st, 2026 surrounded by family and friends at her home in Waianae, Oahu.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents Manuel Freitas and Josephine Ako and beloved husband Herbert Isaacs. Her siblings Irene, Melvine, Alexander, Bobby, Wilfred, Eloise also preceded her.
She is survived by her children - Randy (Mona), Marjean, Colleen, Charlene and Merlene Tanaka (John). Grandchildren - Erik and Jason (Princess) Isaacs, Kaonohi Ahuna (Don) and Michelle (Angelina), Nalani Williams (Harry), Kawika (Krystal) and Shelly Sisneros, Nolan (Ashley) and Kevin (Ariel) Tanaka. Margie has 20 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Jimmy Freitas and Myrtle Bush of Kona.
Margie graduated from Konawaena High School on the Big Island of Hawaii and married Herbert Isaacs in Hilo on August 2, 1954. She moved to Oahu from Kona with her sister Irene Mercado and worked together at Kelly’s Coffee and Pastry Shop in Honolulu. The family lived off of Vineyard St prior to moving to Mikilua Valley on the Waianae Coast.
Margie retired from NEX Barbers Point as a Garage Manager after 30 years of service. Margie found time to be on the board of West Oahu Credit Union as well. She was a foster mom with Casey Family Program for many years and was always helping her family, friends and community. Margie is known to everyone as “Ma.”
Margie danced with Pua'imohala Hula Studios for many years. She danced hula at family gatherings and parties. She is known for her ono hawaiian foods. She also taught lei making with ti leaf and flowers making haku lei.
Margie’s celebration of life will be held at Borthwick Mortuary Maunakea Chapel on February 18th from 8:30am viewing and service with private burial at 1pm at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific.
