Every so often, we come across a person who lives in such a way that we cannot help but want to be like them. Marina Garcia was one of those people. Most amazingly, she was so young and an inspiration even to her elders. The daughter of Rosemary and Genaro Garcia, and sister to Krystal, Andy, and Kailee, Marina has been a shining example of what it means to live a life full of love, grace and peace. No matter the circumstances, Marina would never be heard complaining; she was too focused on the joys of life to be concerned with anything else. She was an incredible example of strength and courage to those who had the privilege of having her in their lives. Marina was a sweet, loving young woman who loved children and always enjoyed spending time in the family’s restaurant visiting with the customers and bringing them chips and salsa. Marina attended Aikahi Elementary, Kailua Intermediate and Kalaheo High School; her teachers and classmates loved her as well.
Marina touched the lives of her extended family members who span the continent. She has been a blessed gift in the lives of her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends. Those of us who loved her will miss her joyful presence, her smile, her hugs, and her genuine concern for others, but her memory and example of a life well lived will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Church at 148 Makawao St., in Kailua. Visitation: 11:00 a.m., Mass: 12:00 p.m., Burial: 2:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park, Kaneohe. Aloha attire.
Arrangements under the direction of Borthwick Mortuary, Honolulu, HI.
