I'm sorry to hear about Merv's passing.  My condolences to his family and friends.  

We've missed you at Puget, friend.  Rest in peace.

I just found out about Merv's passing a few days ago.  I worked with Merv as a crane operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.  I have very fond memories of Merv.  I remember him showing me how to 'properly' cut up a pineapple and his bbq salmon was yummy at many shop luncheons!  Somebody said something about him saying 'you need a checkup from the neckup'.  Ha!  I remember him saying that all the time at work!  I just talked to him on the phone a couple months ago.  You will not be forgotten Merv!

Uncle Merv always with a big smile & sincere aloha spirit. When he moved to WA State he became a part of our family. His words always sweet, encouraging and supportive. "E howzit" "malama pono" & "a hui hou". We miss you uncle Merv, we hold you in our hearts & memories always. Our prayers & condolences to all his families & friends. Papa Merv, I wanted to tell you, I miss you!  You were a friend, brother, confidant, mentor and most of all a father to me.  I still have phone messages.  And there is one in particular that I'll keep always, when you said, "call me son, take care I love you boy!".  You stood in place of my father when passed away nearly twenty years ago.  

You were so proud of me when I became a longshoreman. 

I think of those long talks we would have including your infectious quotes:

"you need a check up from the neck up"

"take it easy and rememba keep it under sixty"

"if you want a car that's cheap and with A/C you need a 440, that's a car with four windows down and goin forty miles an hour."

"what"

"you crazy"

"Don't get upset, you might have a Mac attack"

"see yah, wouldn't wanna be yah"

I could go forever and tell you how much I think of you everyday!  You always told me you helped people because you can't take anything with you when you're gone!  Ask and you shall receive!  You were unique and an awesome person!

You never liked people who used profanity and I'll try not to use those kinds of words.  I know it was your dream to see me working back in Hawaii on elevators.  I promise you, I'll make it happen because I believe in faith!

It's hard to imagine god takes good people instead of the bad ones but, there is a purpose for everything to life.  I've always wondered why there is sickness, disease, and those who are handicapped.  You told me once, the reason my brother was deaf was "because he has you." I am grateful for all the lessons you taught me!  You're a kind person and like a gentle giant, your hands and feet were as big as your heart!  You've made me a better person and for that, I thank you.  Please take care and be at peace Papa Merv and I love you too!

Condolences to the family.  He was a wonderful person to work with. He is truly going to be missed, we have many fond memories with Merv.

My condolences to his `ohana.  It saddens my heart to hear of his passing.  I was wondering why I did not see him at the Kupuna Festival.  Last year, he was the last person to remain with Tim Cabunoc, Kealoha Cabunoc, Leilani and I at the closing of the hall.  He wanted to be sure that we would all leave the hall together.  He helped me load up the last of our `ukana to the cars.  He was also with us at Kaua`i Family Restaurant in June (2nd Sat. of the month).  He will certainly be remembered and will be in our prayers always.  Aunty Manu Lono of Halau Hula `O Lono and the Manuiki Foundation.
