REBEL LYNN KAPOI CHAMIZO, 56, of Kailua, passed away July 29, 2011 at her residence. Born January 5, 1955 in Tucson, Arizona, she was a cafeteria helper at Enchanted Lake Elementary School and a meal counter assistant at Kailua Intermediate School. Rebel was a member of Windward Kai Canoe Club for over 16 years. Her dedication to the sport of outrigger canoe paddling was demonstrated through her efforts as a board member, club representative and “Aunty” to most. Over the years, Rebel has worked with Hawaiian Canoe Racing Associations such as Na ‘Ohana O Na Hui Wa’a, O.H.C.R.A. and the Men’s and Women’s Molokai Hoe Races. She was a valuable asset to all who participated in the sport; from the Na OPIO season through long distance to the H.C.R.A. Championship, all associations learned that they could count on Rebel during times of need. Her spirit of giving made her a pillar throughout the paddling community.
Anyone who knew her knew her grandchildren! She loved them more than life itself and took opportunities to show them off when she could. She would drag them to practices, meetings and races even against their will sometimes.
She was Wife, Mother, Sister, Friend, Puna, Aunty and the “Lady” to avoid in the concession. We love and miss her lots!
Thank you for being a part of her life for she truly loved her family, her friends and Vegas! Hawaiian Nuff Said……
