SGM James Dean Morrow

SGM James Dean Morrow, 81, was born on 1 September 1934 in Huntington, Indiana. He passed away on 29 November 2015 at Pali Momi Medical Center, ‘Aiea, Hawai’i. He was a Catcher for the Chicago White Sox; a Retired United States Army SGM (Sergeant Major); a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran; recipient of the prestigious Legion of Merit award; Provost Marshal of Fort DeRussy, Waikiki, Hawai’i; Commandant of H.A.S.P. (Hawai’i Armed Services Police); member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; member of the American Legion and a Retired Sherriff of the State of Hawai’i.

Before he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, he played at least one game as a Catcher for the Chicago White Sox. After serving in the war, he got out and tried to get back into the White Sox, but he sustained injuries during the war that hindered him from playing professional baseball again. Leading up to the Vietnam War, he enlisted into the Army thus starting his 30 year career path as a Military Police Officer.

His love and passion for enforcing the law and protecting others was self-evident that after his retirement from the Army, he took the oath yet again as a Sherriff for another 10 years. He served in the Executive Protection Unit at the Hawai’i State Capitol. He was tasked with the physical protection of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Hawai’i. He served under 3 Governors during his career (Governors George Ariyoshi, John Waihe’e and Ben Cayetano). After his dual retirement, he focused on his other passion which was GOLFING.

James is survived by his wife Roseann Morrow (married for 56 years); his brother Joe Morrow (wife Sandy Morrow); his 3 sons Charles Morrow, Howard Morrow (wife Cathleen Chang), James G. Morrow; his daughter Lynann Heaser (husband Jeffrey Heaser); his daughter-in-law Tessie Morrow and his 5 adult grandchildren Rochelle Dimler (husband Nicholas Dimler with 1 child), Chuck Callahan (wife Lynda Callahan with 3 children), Christopher Heaser, Kyle Heaser and Michael Morrow (fiancé Issa Grace Salvatierra). James’s family lives throughout the United States from Hawai’i to Minnesota, Illinois, Arkansas, Georgia and New Jersey. His final resting place is at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Crater, Honolulu, Hawai’i. We will always have him in our hearts, minds, souls and our prayers.
