99-year-old Soledad Obado of Lāna’i City, Hawaii, fondly known as Sue, Soling, or Ninang, for she was Godmother to many, peacefully donned her Angel Wings in her home on June 17, 2025. She was born and raised in Waiehu, Maui, before moving to Lāna’i, where she married Liberato Obado. They were together for 67 years until his passing in 2008, raising six children and a few grandchildren along the way.
Welcoming Sue to her Eternal Home with God were her parents, Julian Gattock and Rebecca Yockman; husband, Liberato; sons Dwight (Susanne) and Philip (Sheryl Bubier); and her beloved lapdog, Pua.
Sue was dedicated to serving others. After picking pineapples, she began a career as a Paramedic Assistant and cook at Lanai Community Hospital. She was active in the community as a Cub Scout, Girl Scout, and 4-H Leader, and University Extension Club volunteer. She was also a member of the PTA, Filipino Association, and Senior Citizen Ukulele Club.
A devout Catholic who enjoyed gardening, crafting, and traveling, Sue taught Religious Education, sang in the choir, assisted the homebound, and, in 1998, founded Sacred Hearts Church’s Food Bank, which she then faithfully managed into her early 90s. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with family.
Sue is survived by her children, Gloria Reyes (Vince), Douglas (Priscilla, deceased), Patrick Sr. (Billye), and Glenda Obado-Ito (Ron); and siblings, Mary Tabelisma Tom, and Rudy (Sheila) Tabelisma. As Tūtū, she leaves a loving legacy of 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild to whom her heart and home were always open.
