I can't believe it's been 38 years, and feeling very sad that Stan has left the poker game, he was way to young to leave us. But he left a great group of
Family and friends to remember him always.
Sandy I remember all the good times working together thru the years
And the many parties  and of course Peter Chings yummy cooking
(Beef stew and oxtail peanut soup with the soft gaugee.
Peter passed away  in April , 2011 in Portland Oregon.

Thank you for informing me of Stan's passing.  Stan was a true friend and I will miss him greatly.  I realized when I received your letter that he was the only true friend that I have corresponded with regularly for any extended period of time much less for 43 years.

I wish I could share some photos with you from our time together in Aberdeen but the developer lost all of my photos from our Basic Officers Course.  I took photos of my time with Stan on the rifle range and at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds Museum that I know you have loved to have a print of.

Stan and I spent a good amount of time together during our three months at Aberdeen.  He lived directly above me in the Bachelor Officers Quarters.  We rode to class together in my old green 1969 VW bug.  We ate most meals together.  We ate well on post.  They had a breakfast chow hall for officers where we got a wonderful custom made omelet meal every morning.  They had a bar which   served great sandwiches at lunch.  It was an amusing place to have lunch.  They had a rule that anyone forgetting to remove their head gear "hat" when they came in had to buy a round of drinks for everyone seated at the bar.  Most people got a free beer at lunch.  Stan and I got a free soft drink.  On some Sundays we would go over to the officer's club for brunch.  That was like fine dining for an Ole Country Boy like me.

Stan was higher in rank than me.  He got his 1st Lt Promotion after grad school.  I was fresh out of college with my BS degree and was still a 2nd LT.  I started every day saluting my superior officer Stan.

Iris still treasurers the dress Stan brought her from Hawaii when he went home for Christmas.  It will now be an even more special memory.

Thank you again for receiving us so graciously when we were vacationing in Hawaii.  We felt like we experienced a taste of Hawaiian culture that most tourist never could hope for.

May God watch over you and the girls and the grandkids.  I know you will treasure all of your memories of Stan.  I think you will agree with me that God made him special.

This quote certainly reminds me of Stanley.  He was such a good man, such a gentleman, such a good role model.  He was the presiding chair at only one of the sessions I attended with the housing board.  Oh my, he was good!  He was gentle, yes, but he also didn't put up with any shenanigans.  He called it like he saw it.  Firm but fair.

He had such good, stern but caring advice for those who were on the border line of eviction.  I can't remember what I said after that meeting, some comment about one of the people we'd met.  "Don't judge", was all Stan quietly said to me, and I've never forgotten that.  That advice still echoes in my mind, and I try, I really do, try not to judge.  That is among several humbling lessons I've learned on that board.  I am ever so thankful that Stan persuaded me to volunteer for those hearings.  (He actually must have given me a good "recommendation" because I was welcomed there by everyone on Board C.  I love those people.)

I attended St. Theresa's School with Stan back in the early 60's and St. Louis High School.  I have fond memories of the days in Kalihi and Palama neighborhood, shooting pool and playing softball with friends.  We later formed the "Amigos" which consisted of fellow St. Louis classmates.   Thanks Stan for being part of who we were and are today.

Sandy and family, Stan was truly a decent and caring human being. In my time at Law School, he was always helpful in finding the appropriate law books when he worked in the law library. On the night when my wife was giving birth to our son (first child) I spent time in Stan's place with other friends. And too, he and you (Sandy) allowed my wife (Ona) and I to use your apartment for the summer when you guys were away.  My, how time flies. We pray the best for you and your children. We can't forget "Stan, the Man". I pray that I'll see him in heaven. God bless you all.

Even now the mere mention of Stan's name would immediately bring a smile to the face of anyone who knew him.  Everyone who met him has a least one funny story involving him, and many of us were fortunate to have multiple stories that we'll consider again and again throughout the coming years.  It is very obvious that he was a fabulous family man.  For the rest of us, he was a genuine friend, totally without pretense, who would help you without expectation of any payback in return.  He had a warm and friendly spirit that would make you instantly comfortable upon meeting him.  We'll miss him terribly but when we have a bout of melancholy, we'll merely think of all of the joy that he brought to our lives.  His family has our sincerest condolences.  God bless you Stan.  Rest in peace.

I am very very sorry for your loss.  You have left behind a wonderful family.

After almost 50 years of friendship we are devastated by the loss of Stan. We remember days at Gonzaga with the rice cooker full of rice and hotdogs, meeting in San Francisco on our honeymoon and going on Stan and Sandys honeymoon!! Our children growing up and all of us traveling together to Europe and China as well as the Panama Canal cruise. Not to forget the Young family coming to Alaska to visit us several times and our many visits to Hawaii. All our great times together we treasure so much.  We will truly miss him. We send our love to Sandy, Laurie, Janna, Sid, Jamie, Lana and Noah. We are sure Stan is in Heaven having Dim Sum every day!
