It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Wallace Jun Pang Lam of Honolulu. Wallace, or Wally as he was known to his family and friends, was born on November 14, 1929 and peacefully transitioned out of this life on March 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Through his journey of 96 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, charm, generosity, friendship and an unwavering spirit of a can do attitude.
Wally graduated from Farrington High School and joined the U.S. Air Force as an Airman photographer at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado. After returning to Honolulu, he devoted the rest of his professional career servicing nuclear submarines at Pearl Harbor
Naval Shipyard.
Wally's passions included cooking, entertaining, working on remodels, and especially spending time with his family. The luaus held in his backyard were legendary, and his bar, Wally’s Hideaway, was the heart and soul of every party or family gathering. Wally’s favorite pastime was a cold one and talking story, with many a late night of shared stories and laughs, and where everyone was made to feel welcomed.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Wallace is survived by his wife, Laura (Ching); children Gary (Linda), Randall (Nona); Carol (Bill) Meyer and Andrea (Guy) Fernandes; 10 grandchildren, Kira Lam, Ryan Erik Lam, Risa (Ryan Hobson) Lam, Ian (Hana) Lam, Malia Lam, Eric Meyer, Lauren Meyer, Alina Fernandes, Lexi Fernandes, Alyssa Fernandes; and 2 great grandchildren, Lily Lam, Lyla Lam.
We would also like to express our gratitude to In-Home Quality Care Services and Wally’s devoted caretakers, especially Norma, whose compassion and companionship was a godsend to Wally and our family.
Private funeral services have been arranged.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Wally’s legacy of treating people with respect and kindness, being open to making new friendships, staying curious, being the best person you can be, and making happy memories, because as Wally was fond of saying “happy memories are treasures of the heart”. This we believe, would be the best tribute to his extraordinary life.
