

George Charles Woods Jr., 80, of Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 with both of his girls by his side.
George was born November 10, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late George C. Woods and the late Margaret Thomas.
George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dolly J. Woods. Remaining family members include his daughters Kerry McCleaf and husband Brett of Aspers, PA and Tracey Cryder of Mechanicsburg, PA; sister Peggy Harvey and husband Charles of Philadelphia, PA; step-sister MaryAnn Thomas of Philadelphia, PA; and step-brother William Thomas and wife Bernadette of Audubon, NJ. George leaves a legacy to his 3 grandsons: Ryan Bruetsch, Kyle McCleaf and Derek McCleaf.
George graduated from North East Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA. In 1966, George received a bachelor’s of science degree in engineering from La Salle College in Philadelphia, PA. George was a United States Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War from 1951-1955 on the USS Kenneth Whiting and the USS Rendova. He looked forward to his yearly military reunions with his shipmates from the USS Kenneth Whiting.
George retired from AMP Inc. after 34 years of service as an engineer. George had a great love of aviation and earned his private pilot’s license later in life. George was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He and Dolly enjoyed traveling. Their favorite destination was Ireland, but their real joy was spending their last 11 years of retirement in Bluffton, SC. George was a true man of faith, family, friends and integrity.
The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers and Hospice Care of the Lowcountry of Bluffton, SC, Fayetteville NC Veterans Medical Center, Lebanon PA Veterans Hospital and the Veterans of American Legion Post 32 of Fayetteville, NC.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 2651 Buckius Street, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Lebanon Veterans Hospital, Voluntary Services (10V) 1700 South Lincoln Avenue, Lebanon, PA 17042 or Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, Post Office Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910.
