To Jose, Tonia (Jo) and the Torres Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Gilbert and I were  neighbors  for many  years  and he will be  greatly missed.  May God bless  and comfort  you all  during  this difficult  time. Rest in peace  Gilbert  and Family  know that he is with the Lord.

My Tio Gilberto was a one of kind human being. His yes meant yes and his no was definitely a NO.  He was a person that whenever he committed to something, whether being there at a certain day or time, it was a done deal and nothing could derail him from his word. “Un hombre de palabra”.  I mostly enjoyed him talking about his Compa Victor ( his older brother). He shared many stories with me that gave me an insight on how my dad Victor was as a child.  I respected my Tio because he was a working man, a blue collar worker that beat odds and overcame barriers to get what he had. He always said he didn’t have much but he was proud of what he had and it was because of his hard work. In his eyes he lived the American Dream because he owned a home, had little to no debt, and with his work he could provide for his family. I am thankful for spending a whole week with him in February 2021. We were seating at my ranch talking to some friends and the entire time he didn’t say a word. The suddenly, I made a comment about craving carnitas and he said, “pues si traía ganas de carnitas mata un puerco”.  Two minutes later, I bought a pig and the next day we butchered him and ate carnitas.  We could not stopped laughing!!! My tio was a man of few words but a gentle soul who cared about those he loved. He will forever be in my heart and I will miss him. I am at peace that my Tio is resting in heaven and lo longer suffering. I bet he is happy to be able to walk and do things without any assistance because he hated not being fully able to do so! Bye Tio! Lo extraño! 

I have a lot of memories of my grandpa.  My grandpa was the one who picked my name when I was born. He then nicknamed me Penweka, which to this day I still have no idea what that means. Lol. My grandpa would always play tea party and baby dolls with me. He was always up for a game of 31, rummy, or loteria. Back scratches and plucking his gray hair was a nightly routine. He had me believing in Santa Clause until I was about 11 years old because on Christmas morning he would run down the hallway jingling his Christmas bells while yelling "Ho! Ho! Ho! MERRY CHRISTMAS!" And as hard as my little self tried to catch him, I never could! When I was about 5, my mom had this chicken alarm clock that would sing and that song stay with us for forever and even years later my grandpa would wake me up by signing "Hey, baby wake up! Come and dance with me.. Wowww.. Yeaaaa"   One of his favorite things to do was people watch, so we would go to the mall every weekend and he would let us kids shop and he would just chill on the bench until we got done. I remember when I was in the 3rd grade and the song "wasn't me" by shaggy came out and he would sing it loud and proud (Of course embarrassing me) while we were cruising in the Pony. When I was 15, and we were living in California, I drop my classic flip phone in the canal and I started crying and without hesitation, Grandpa came to the rescue and jumped in to save it.  My grandpa always came to my rescue when I needed him the most and I am forever grateful for all the years I had with him.  I love you, Grandpa!!
