James Fulton West

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; brothers, Robert and Edwin West and his sisters, Virginia West Willis and Linda West Byrd.

James Fulton West was Veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and served the town of Hope Mills as town commissioner and Mayor. He retired from the Cumberland County Inspections Department.

James was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church serving as choir director for a number of years. He loved his church and the members who were so kind and thoughtful over the years.

He is survived by his daughter Sylvia West Schmidt, a son-in-law Bill Schmidt, a grandson Jason West Schmidt, a brother Ted West and a sister-in-law Sarah West.

We greatly appreciate all of those at the Hope Mills Retirement Center who cared for him so well during the past four years. Many thanks to 3HC Hospice who were very supportive during these final days.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church in Hope Mills. Immediately following the service, the family will accept friends for visitation at the church.
