

Martin was born November 12, 1927 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina to the late Andrew Jackson and Charity Matilda Griffith Bowman. He served his country for over 26 years in the US Army with service during WWII, Vietnam and the Korean War. His outstanding service was recognized with the following; Bronze Star, 6 Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, armed forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Parachute Badge Legion of Merit.
Along with his parents Martin was preceded in death by his wife Vashti Edwards Bowman a son, Martin Alfred Bowman, Jr., six sisters and eight brothers.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 1:00 at Reeves Funeral Home, Hope Mills. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville with full military honors.
Those left to remember his life and mourn his passing include daughter, Sherry Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Karen Bowman; three granddaughters, Teresa Money (Jimmy), Katie Collins (Josh) and Nicole Bowman; two great grandsons, Collin Money and Travis Collins; one great great grandchild, Hazel Collins; grand dog, Cornbread and grand cat, Zorro.
