Doris Reis died at the Hospice Comfort Care in Little Rock on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. She was 92 years old. Her children were at her side. Doris had suffered from COPD for several years. She is survived by her three children: Jennifer Reis and her husband, Ed Lemerise, Mary Bryan and her husband Steve, and Bryan Reis and his wife, Linda; seven grandchildren: Danielle Humphrey, Jessica Dempsey, Theresa McKinzie, Travis Bryan, Tyler Reis, Natalie Sheppard, and Hannah Nation, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Doris was born in Eden, South Dakota on the day the stock market crashed in 1929. She and her husband, Al, and their 3 three children moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1957.
Doris was a working mother and loved houses. She was an assistant to John Garner, a well-known interior decorator in Ft. Smith. She became a realtor after she and Al, her husband of 60 years, moved to Little Rock. Her last 15 working years were spent as a mortgage banker with Simmons Bank. She was not all work! She loved to have fun and was named “happy go lucky” in her senior yearbook. She loved to play bridge and to read, especially mysteries and spy novels. She loved cats.
Doris was a 30 year member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hot Springs. She was active in the Century Club and her Church Circle, having held officer positions in both.
Her favorite place to be was ANYWHERE with water: camping on an island at Lake Ouachita with the family, lounging by her pool after work, drinking coffee on her deck on Lake Hamilton after she retired, basking in the sun on the beach in Destin, or on any cruise ship!
There will be a Mass in celebration of Doris’ life at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hot Springs on October 20 at 10:30 am. The Rosary will be in the church at 10:00 and a luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Friends are invited to visit at Doris’ home after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your local pet shelter.
