He was predeceased by his parents, Seaton Turner Douglass, II and Mary Amelia Coppock Douglass, his brother, Seaton Turner Douglass, III, who died in World War II, and his wife of almost 49 years, Mary Vance Martin Douglass.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Martin Douglass Dalby (Marti) and her husband, Robert, granddaughters Mary Douglass Dalby and Kathryn Martin Dalby Atkins and her husband, Eric, and one great grandson, Warren Turner Atkins.
Even though many knew him as Ed, he was affectionately called Beefy, a nickname that he acquired in grade school and one which remained with him throughout his life. He graduated from Southern Methodist University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II and the owner of Douglass Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and a philanthropist for many different charities. His compassion and love for family and friends and the infectious way that he enjoyed getting to know others were his most redeeming qualities, showing that he lived out his faith not only by his words, but by his actions. He will also be remembered as an avid golfer, duplicate bridge player, and handicapper at Oaklawn Jockey Club.
The past two years of his life he was blessed with the friendship of his caregivers Vanessa Stewart and Gloria Wilson, as well as the community of West Shores, both staff and residents.
