Ernie was a man who loved deeply and lived life with an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and "Poppy". His love for his family was evident in all that he did, and he always made time for a good laugh, a joke, or a song. He will be remembered for his calming spirit, his ability to roll with life’s punches with a smile, and his endless enthusiasm for spending time with the people he cherished.
Ernie had a passion for adventure and was always ready to hop in his truck and head out, often with no destination in mind. Whether he was driving as the owner of his own trucking company, E. Jackson, or working for John Jenkins, or riding a motorcycle, the open road was where he found joy.
Those who knew Ernie also knew of his love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, camping, and simply enjoying nature with his loved ones. A favorite morning routine involved sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee, reading a devotional, listening to worship music, and watching the wildlife. Ernie’s lighthearted personality and his love for laughter were infectious, and he could always be counted on to crack a joke or belt out a country song, especially his favorite, “Your Man” by Josh Turner.
Ernie attended New Life Church, where he found great joy in the worship music. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he especially stood on that unwavering faith through these last few years.
Though he lived a full and adventurous life, those who spent time with Ernie knew that he had an easygoing nature and a friendship that extended to everyone he met. Whether you were enjoying a meal of Chinese food with him or finding Little Debbie wrappers in the truck, Ernie’s heart was open to all. “Don’t worry,” he’d say about the Little Debbies, “I only ate two.” Ernie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He was truly “one of one.”
