

Lynn Thomas Benedict, 63, of Glenwood, Arkansas passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Hot Springs. He was born February 21, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Tom and Avanell Benedict. Lynn was a loving father, husband, grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend to all. Lynn served 4 years in the United States Navy in his youth, and was stationed on U.S. Navy Destroyer the U.S.S. Elmer Montgomery as a Boatswains Mate. He also spent more than 30 years in law enforcement serving the state of Arkansas; 27 of which were with the Arkansas State Police. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy; his 2 children Coast Guard Chief Boatswains Mate Lance Benedict and his wife Amber of Ilwaco, Washington and Summer Backstrom and husband Randy of Bentonville, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren Brody, Angel and Gage; 1 sister Livia and husband Bill McCoy of Richmond, Virginia; 1 brother Carl and wife Sandy Benedict of Glenwood, Arkansas; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; father-in-law Carl Palmer; and brother-in-law Jerry Palmer. Visitation will be Monday, January 4th, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Gross Funeral Home with Brother Derek Barnes and Pastor Tony Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Alpine Cemetery.
