Marciel M. Abernathy, 89, of Hot Springs, peacefully departed this life, while at home with her family, on March 27, 2018. She was born on September 4, 1928, near Alamo, AR, to Ernest and Lura Milholen. She was a devoted member of Mt. Tabor Community Church for 56 years. She is predeceased by her parents, a step-mother, Gertie Milholen, her husband of 62 years, Isaac Abernathy, a brother, Ray Milholen, a sister, Marie Pittman (Bill), and a daughter, LaTina Lea Powell. She is survived by her brothers, Jim Milholen (KK) of Rogers and Rick Milholen (Sandy), a sister, Aleta Winston (James), a son, Michael Abernathy (Juliet), and a daughter, Velda Thompson (Paul), all of Hot Springs, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Marciel was a bookkeeper, by trade, and a pastor’s wife, by calling. She loved being a mother, and she loved to dance, winning many first place awards, across several states, in ballroom dancing competitions. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of the outfits she wore in dance programs. She was a loving caregiver who devoted her life to meeting the needs of those she loved, including her grandparents, her parents, her family, and her grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, March 30, at the Gross Funeral Home chapel, with funeral service to follow at 2:00. The service will be conducted by Pastors Paul Thompson and Mark Clark. Interment will follow at Peak Cemetery on Ragweed Valley Rd. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy, Stephen, and Jonathan Thompson, Bradley, Brandon, Joseph, and Austin Abernathy, and Braden George.
