July 25, 1947 – June 11, 2025
Michael Ray Wimsett, lovingly known as “Mike,” age 77, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2025, surrounded by family and the peace of God’s presence.
Born in Borger, Texas, Mike lived a life rooted in faith, love, and quiet service. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Erma, who faithfully cared for him in all seasons. A longtime Hot Springs resident, Mike and Erma also spent winters in South Texas--“the Valley”--where he enjoyed a slower pace and lasting friendships.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Tony (Carol) Wimsett and Doug Wimsett. His grandchildren--Elizabeth (Cody) Hendrix, Summer (Billy) Parker, and Valerie Wimsett--brought him great joy. He also shared a special bond with Emily Thompson, Mikey Hyde, Braiden Fortner, and Hayden Chase, and was affectionately known as “Papa” by many.
Mike was further blessed with four great-grandchildren: Elijah Hendrix, Luke Hendrix, Peter Parker, and Adilyn Parker, who will carry on his legacy of kindness and faith. Also cherishing his memory are his brother and two sisters, with whom he shared deep family ties.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from UALR, which he used during his 34-year career at EVRAZ Stratcor. His work ethic and skill were respected by all who knew him. He found joy in working with his hands, being outdoors, dancing, and RV camping with Erma--treasuring both adventure and peaceful nights under the stars.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 2350 Central Avenue, Hot Springs. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., with the service following at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice in Mike’s honor.
In accordance with his wishes, Mike will be cremated. His grandsons and great-grandsons will honor him by serving as honorary pallbearers.
