Shelden “Shep” Taxer passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 91.
Born on August 30, 1934, in New York City, New York, Shep built a life defined by service, leadership, faith, and family. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga, where he held the distinguished role of Plankmaster, a title he carried with great pride throughout his life.
Following his military service, Shep became a successful business executive, known for his hard work and integrity. These same qualities shaped his personal life and his involvement in the community.
Shep shared 68 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Myrna. Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a proud father of two daughters, Vicki and Lori, and was affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and “Uncle Shep” to many others who were fortunate to know him.
A man of deep Jewish faith, Shep was an active and committed member of Congregation Agudath Achim, where he served as President for several years. His faith guided his actions and values, and he gave generously of his time in service to others.
Beyond his many roles, he was a talented baseball player and carried his love of the game with him for decades. He was also a fan of music and was often heard humming or singing Frank Sinatra tunes.
Shelden “Shep” Taxer will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted family man, proud Navy veteran, respected business leader, and a pillar of his faith community. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the lives he touched.
