

Evangelist Elaine Marie Harkins, age 59, a resident of Morgan City, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Teche Regional Medical Center at 12:35 PM. Visitation will be at Second Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 9:00 AM until funeral at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery. Evangelist Elaine Marie Harkins was the daughter of Helen Dorsey and Charles Harkins. She graduated from Morgan City High School in 1970 and began her working career at Shell Offshore, Inc. She later broadened her career and became a loyal and dedicated employee at Firmin Architects LTD. Elaine accepted Jesus Christ and witnessed for the Lord by way of radio on Sundays initially with her mother Helen Dorsey on KBZE. After the passing of her mother, Elaine continued to reach out and speak to all open minds and hearts encouraging and feeding the Word of God. She was one of the pioneering clients of KBZE 105.9 FM when the station signed on the air January 1, 1993. She loved the Word of God and decided to pursue her education in the ministry. She attended the United Theological Seminary and Bible College and earned the Degree of Diploma of Theology in May 2008 and a Bachelors Degree of Theology in May 2009. Elaine led a private life and those who knew her well loved her dearly. She was a kind and giving person and loved to go shopping mostly for others. Her favorite foods were fried fish and gumbo. Evangelist Elaine Marie Harkins leaves to cherish her memories two aunts, Bernie Lee Evans and Wilhemina Howard; one uncle, Reverend Peter Mickens; a half sister, Gertie Eugene; two godchildren, Lance Sims and Adrianne Belton and a host of relatives, friends and colleagues. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, Alberta Dangerfield Dorsey, aunts, uncles and cousins with whom she is now rejoicing. ""We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."" (2 Corinthians 5:8)
